Senators call for wireless bill

Are you still baffled as to why you give your cell phone provider 97 cents every month for a county gross receipts charge or $1.25 for federal universal service? Does it feel like the two-year wireless contract you signed a few months ago is actually set at 23 years? And why exactly is your living room an apparent black hole for mobile reception?
Two senators will introduce legislation today intended to shed light on these and other wireless mysteries with a bill that calls on providers to be more transparent in their billing and contract procedures.
The Cell Phone Consumer Empowerment Act, penned by Democrats Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia, would require wireless providers to provide clear and concise outlines of services provided, allow for 30-day trial periods and allow consumers to more easily exit their contracts if that provider is not providing an adequate level of service.
