Short on shopping cash? Put it on layaway

The last time Sears offered layaway for much of its merchandise, acid-washed jeans were the rage, the first Batman movie was released and George H.W. Bush was president.

The national chain is just one of several retailers that have revived layaway plans for their customers.

Retailers hope that layaways and other new creative financing offers will help them on this Black Friday — one of the busiest shopping days of the year and the kickoff to the period when stores count on shoppers to get them from a losing one in the red to a profitable one in the black.
